The CW Has ‘No Plans’ For a Superman Series

If The CW’s Arrowverse expands further beyond “Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Supergirl” and “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” it won’t be with a Superman series.

Although “Teen Wolf” alum Tyler Hoechlin earned praise for his stint as the Man of Steel on “Supergirl,” the network isn’t setting up a spinoff. In fact, it appears to be up in the air when, or if, Hoechlin will return to the show.

“Tyler did a great job,” The CW President Mark Pedowitz told Entertainment Weekly today during the Television Critics Association winter press tour. “There’s no plan to do a series. There are no plans at the moment for him to return [to ‘Supergirl’]. If they wish to have him return, we’d love to have him.”

EW suggested that Superman’s prominent role on the big screen — in Warner Bros.’ “Batman v Superman,” “Justice League” and a planned “Man of Steel” sequel — might mean there’s a rights issue, but Pedowitz wouldn’t even entertain that possibility.

“I can’t even answer the question yet because at this time there are no plans to do it and there have been no discussions about it,” he said.

Hoechlin appeared as the Man of Steel in two episodes of “Supergirl,” the Season Two premiere “The Adventures of Supergirl” and its follow-up, “The Last Children of Krypton.” Executive producer Greg Berlanti told EW they were “just really lucky” to cast Hoechlin.

“We’d love to have Tyler back,” he said. “He’s amazing, he was great in the role.”

Starring Melissa Benoist, “Supergirl” returns Monday, Jan. 23, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
