Every day in April I will be featuring a humorous comic (either an issue or a series of strips) that I found particularly amusing. Feel free to e-mail me at bcronin@comicbookresources.com the comic stories that are your favorites when it comes to hilarity, and I'll see if I can't feature some of them this month, as well!

Today we look at a comic that is sadly out of print (as far as I know), the delightful 1996 one-shot Sergio Aragones Destroys DC by Sergio Aragones and Mark Evanier (plus a bunch of top-notch inkers from that time in DC history, like Denis Rodier, Scott Hanna, John Byrne, Ron Boyd, Jerry Ordway and Joe Rubinstein).

Enjoy!

The story opens with Hawkman warning Martian Manhunter about some great menace that is going to doom the DC Universe.

We learn that the comic is being produced by Aragones because he feels like he needs to do a superhero comic, so this is his attempt to get work as a superhero artist at DC Comics.

Throughout the issue, Aragones and Evanier introduce the various major heroes of the DC Universe (with the installments of each hero being inked by an artist associated with that character - Rodier does Superman's pages, Hanna does Batman's pages, Byrne does Wonder Woman's pages, Boyd does the Legion of Super-Heroes' pages and Ordway and Rubinstein split the big finale).

There are a lot of good, lighthearted gags about each of the heroes (I like the bit about how Martian Manhunter will answer any call for help - unless that call is "Fire!" Very cute).

It all leads to all the major heroes getting together (I believe this just slightly pre-dated Morrison's JLA) to figure out who it could be that is behind their impending doom...

I won't spoil how Batman figures out how to stop the big bad guy. It's very clever and quite humorous.

It's pretty funny how the plot of this one-shot sort of evokes the plot of Infinite Crisis, doesn't it?

Anyhow, very good stuff by Aragones, Evanier and friends! Go scour the back issue bins for this baby! Or maybe DC will be nice enough to reprint it in the future! Hey, a guy can dream, can't he?
