WARNING: The following contains spoilers for "On the Wings of Keeradaks" the latest episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7.

The final season of The Clone Wars features the return of Echo, a long-lost Clone that hasn't appeared seen since Season 3 when he was thought to be killed at the hands of the Separatists. Echo's death left his comrade-in-arms Fives as the only remaining member of the lovable group of Clones known as the Domino Squad. But how did how the group grow to such prominence in The Clone Wars?

Well, the Domino Squad was one of the first groups of Clones that were fleshed out and given personalities. Fans first met the group -- which consisted of Echo, Fives, Droidbait, Hevy and Cutup -- when they were cadets in training, and their nickname wasn’t exactly a badge of honor. They were referred to as Domino because in training sessions they would always drop one by one. They were screw-ups among the other elite soldiers to-be -- basically the lovable losers of the Star Wars universe.

In their first chronological appearance, Season 3's “Clone Cadets”, the group repeatedly fails to pass a training exercise. Though initially there’s tension among them, blaming one another for their failure, they eventually bond through the adversity and become a tight-knit group. Their teamwork ends up being their greatest strength as they eventually win the challenge, resulting in their promotion to full-fledged Clone Troopers.

The group went on to help Clone Captain Rex and Commander Cody fend off a droid attack in their inaugural mission on the Rishi moon. The battle was vicious, resulting in the tragic deaths of Cutup, Hevy and Droidbait, leaving only Echo and Fives as the remaining members of the freshly formed Domino squad. Together, the duo helped Rex and Cody win the battle and were subsequently invited to join the 501st Legion. From that point on, Echo and Fives became regular characters in the series, fighting alongside the most beloved group of Clone Troopers in the series.

Unfortunately, not everything goes well for the duo, as they both met their end during the Clone Wars. At the Battle of Lola Sayu, as Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano and Obi-Wan Kenobi attempt to rescue Jedi Master Even Piell from the Separtisit's Citadel, Echo was presumed dead after an escape craft exploded, leaving Fives to carry the torch of the Domino Squad as its last remaining member.

Fives would later be caught in up a conspiracy after discovering that all Clones had programming inside of them that could force them to kill their Jedi allies. While trying to expose the plot, he was accused of attempting to assassinate Chancellor Palpatine after the Sith Lord confessed his involvement. During a secret meeting with Anakin and Rex, Fives was killed by a group of Clones who discovered his whereabouts, effectively eliminating Domino Squad.

That was until the Season 7 episode, "A Distant Echo," which brings back Echo in shocking fashion. After discovering a mysterious Separtist transmission, Rex believes Echo to be alive and in enemy captivity. Rex, Anakin and the Bad Batch head to Skako Minor, where they find the Clone with little memory of what happened. The group gets Echo off-planet in the most recent episode, "On the Wings of Keeradaks," in hopes of bringing him back into the fold as the Clone Wars draw to an end.

Streaming on Disney+, the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars stars Matt Lanter as Anakin Skywalker, Ashley Eckstein as Ahsoka Tano, Dee Bradley Baker as Captain Rex and the clone troopers, James Arnold Taylor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan and Sam Witwer as Maul. A new episode arrives each Friday.
