COVID-19 has affected several venues of entertainment, including film and television production. Season 3 of The Boys may lose one of its potential guest stars due to the pandemic, according to showrunner Eric Kripke.

Kripke says that new health protocols mean that a planned guest spot for Jeffery Dean Morgan could fall through; Morgan is currently a series regular on The Walking Dead, which would mean he'd have to be quarantined for 2 weeks. "Of the many things COVID is screwing up in this world, a Jeffrey Dean Morgan cameo or a Jeffrey Dean Morgan role may be one of them," Kripke told Newsarama in an interview. "But if the quarantine is removed and a couple of things break our way? Then yeah, we'll try to figure it out."

Kripke and Morgan have previously worked together on Supernatural -- Morgan played the recurring role of John Winchester, the father of Sam and Dean Winchester. Supernatural alum Jensen Ackles, who plays Dean, is slated to appear on Season 3 of The Boys as Captain America analogue Soldier Boy.

Season 3 of The Boys was announced shortly after Season 2's premiere date. Season 2 has so far received glowing reviews and currently sits at 96% on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing.

Amazon Studios' The Boys stars Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hughie, Laz Alonso as Mother's Milk, Tomer Kapon as Frenchie, Karen Fukuhara as the Female, Erin Moriarty as Annie January, Chace Crawford as the Deep, Antony Starr as Homelander, Aya Cash as Stormfront and Simon Pegg as Hughie's dad. Season 2 premieres Sep. 4 on Amazon Prime Video.
