THE BOYSAccording to Collider, director Adam McKay is in "serious talks" to direct the film. McKay's resume includes "Anchorman" and "Step Brothers." One can imagine he's tired of straightforward comedy. Wait, I'm talking about "The Boys." It's right in his wheelhouse.Release date: TBACOWBOYS & ALIENSJon Favreau, the Twitter-happy director, posted this great looking photo from the set of the film:

Starring Daniel Craig, release date: July 29th, 2011GREEN LANTERNAccording to IGN's sources inside Warner Brother, the poster image our old friend at Bleeding Cool revealed last week is ... a fake. Of course, it's the studios job to deny material like this, but I have an alternate theory. This is part of DC's booth/pavilion for Comic-Con. It has the comic logo and the character's current look. Perhaps our friend's original tipper misunderstood the purpose of the image.Starring Ryan Reynolds, release date: June 17th, 2011MARVEL SHORTSGeorge Roush at Latino Review writes, "Got a scoop from a well trusted source that Marvel/Disney are looking at doing 10 minute short films in front of their feature length movies that will introduce secondary characters like Black Panther, Luke Cage, Dr. Strange, etc. I have no other information on this. Such as what movie they plan on starting this with (Avengers maybe?) or what character(s) they plan on introducing first." He puts a big old rumor warning around it, but it is an interesting idea. In the golden age of cinema, a film program consisted of a cartoon, a newsreel, a short, and then the feature film. Reintroducing this concept with superheros could work. Maybe the time has come for the shorts to return in general. It's a low cost way to introduce new concepts and ideas to a marketplace trained to trust brave corporate logos.Release date: TBASCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLDSuperhero Hype has a description of the material from the film screened at a Los Angeles Film Festival event. "The scene comes from the secondScott Pilgrimbook and opens with the comic text "And then..." onscreen, backed by a cover of Bob Dylan's appropriately-titledTo Ramona(I believe by the Flying Burrito Brothers). Scott has set up a date with Ramona at his house and she arrives just as Scott's roommate Wallace is leaving. (His departure tinkers with the comic a bit in that he's leaving to go check out a movie shoot)," the write. Including some material previously seen, the clip show represents nine minutes of the film.Starring Michael Cera and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, release date: August 13th 2010SPIDER-MAN (BEGINS)Our old friend at Bleeding Cool reports that actor Josh Hutcherson is working out a way to be Spider-Man. The actor has obligations to appear in a "Journey to the Center of the Earth" sequel. "I understand that there are serious moves to free Josh from his Warner-based contractual committments and suddenly free him up to play the web swinger," writes our friend.

Release date: May 28th, 2012THE HOBBITThe OneRing.net hears tell of Neill Blomkamp, director of "District 9" taking the reigns of the film. Of course, they're quick to keep it a rumor. "We are not reporting that Neill Blomkamp is the director of 'The Hobbit'. I am not ready to put my name or TheOneRing's name on a story that says this is fact," they write. Their spy seems to think it's a fact and the article goes on to explain why Blomkamp fits into the puzzle that is making "The Hobbit" into a film.Release date: 2012?SAM AND TWITCHWhile talking about the latest "Sam and Twitch" comic series with CBR, Todd McFarlane mentioned the possibility of the characters coming to television. "It would be an hour-long drama with a little bit of the mystique stuff in it," he says. "Twitch, to me, is the kid from 'The Sixth Sense,' now grown up. He's now an adult and has to deal with seeing things off and on his whole life, so now he sort of understands it. Sam still doesn't quite go for the ride, but because he has so much respect for Twitch, he'll trust Twitch when he says, 'I'm telling you something.'" That's not a bad pitch and it could definitely have a place in the current TV landscape. If memory serves, the characters did appear in the animated "Spawn" series and have a three-second cameo in the feature.Release date: TBABLACK PANTHERAccording to Entertainment Weekly, the series will appear on digital download services like iTunes, XBox Live and the Playstation Network starting June 23 as a motion comic. Well, I'd say it's somewhere between motion comic and full animation. Almost like the Marvel cartoons of old.Release date: June 23rd, 2010THE LONGEST DAY It's the Summer Solstice and I'm remiss in not planning some sort of event to celebrate. I suppose I can always read a portion of "The Invisibles," even if Morrison didn't use the Summer Solstice in any of it. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya bracing for the future threat of the shortest night.
