In conjunction with the return of Peter Parker next Wednesday in the relaunched Amazing Spider-Man #1, respected Toronto comic store The Beguiling will auction off copies of the hero's first two appearances: 1963's Amazing Fantasy #15 and The Amazing Spider-Man #1.

“These two books are what you might call ‘Holy Grail’ books for comic book collectors,” The Beguiling owner Peter Birkemoe said in a statement. “They’re two of the most valuable and sought-after issues from the Silver Age of comics, and we’ve had tons of interest already from fans looking to add them to their collections.”

Bidding will start at $5,000 Canadian (about $4,535 U.S.) the CGC-graded 2.0 copy of Amazing Fantasy #15, and $2,500 Canadian ($2,267 U.S.) for the CGC-graded 3.0 copy of The Amazing Spider-Man #1.

The store will also auction variant editions of the relaunched Amazing Spider-Man #1 featuring exclusive cover art by Marcos Martin, Jerome Opena and Alex Ross, with the proceeds going to the Toronto Comic Arts Festival, organized by The Beguiling in conjunction with the Toronto Public Library.

“The Beguiling is internationally well-known for its support of comics authors and works that fall outside of the mainstream,” said Birkemoe said. “We want to spread the joy (and money) around a little bit with this superhero-centric event to support the next generation of comics creators, and supporting TCAF is a great way to do that.”

Those interested in participating in the auction are asked to show up at the store, located at 601 Markham St., by 6 p.m. April 30 to register; sealed reserve bids will be accepted until 6 p.m. April 29. The auction will begin at 7 p.m. April 30. Full details can be found here.
