This year, I decided to do something different for Fred Van Lente Day, I'm going to review one issue of Ivar, Timewalker a day, leading up to Fred Van Lente Day!

Oops, I forgot to do one of these yesterday. So you'll get two today! So we continue with Ivar, Timewalker #6, by Fred Van Lente, Francis Portela and Andrew Dalhouse...

This issue continues Ivar's attempts to rescue Neela from her future, evil self, with the help of his two brothers, one (Gilad, the Eternal Warrior) chosen from the same time period as Neela's evil future self and one (Aram, Armstrong) from Neela's present. The brothers have some good bantering, but the key interaction in the issue is Neela's interaction with her future self, as her future self pushes Neela into creating time travel (as she believes Neela is about to crack the mystery of time travel that would be able to change the past)...

That Bechdel Test reference was golden!

In the issue, Van Lente also introduces a new villain. Man, during his time at Valiant, Van Lente has introduced some truly memorable minor characters. The villain, the shape-shifting collection of nanites known as Von-New-Man, is pretty sweet, but the character who is a living embodiment of internet message board users? That guys is HILARIOUS.

Portela and Dalhouse tell a strong issue and their design of Von-New-Man is suitably off-putting and when he goes into action, it is really well depicted. Some great action sequences in this one.

The arc is really kicking into high gear!
