Marvel Comics fans know by now not to take the Mad Titan Thanos lightly, and it looks like that sentiment will ring true when Josh Brolin is finally let loose to play the character in a starring role in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War. Brolin recently teased Thanos' massive powers and the film's surprising depth in an interview with Good Morning America. The massive power Brolin refers to are the Infinity Stones, the six gems glimpsed across several Marvel Cinematic Universe films that Thanos' comic book incarnation is infamous for slotting into a gilded glove called the Infinity Gauntlet. While each gem is unfathomably powerful individually, collected they can rewrite reality.RELATED: Avengers: Infinity War Appears to Have Wrapped FilmingBrolin was cagey about giving away too much information about the gems' role in the film. When asked if Thanos collects all six gems in the movie, Brolin was quick to point out that he's not even sure if the script for the Avengers: Infinity War sequel has been completed, which could be an indication that Thanos quest to collect all six gems is stretched across the two films.

"I haven't done the second movie so I don't know," Brolin said. "I literally don't know what the second script is. I don't know if they've finished the second script, and that's the truth. I think they're in the midst of structuring and restructuring."

The Infinity Stones in the MCU are far closer to home than their comic book counterparts. Thanos' journey to collect the six gems is recounted in the Thanos Quest limited series that sees the titan seizing gems from the likes of the In-Betweener, the Runner and the Gardener. Rather than remaining in the possession of various high concept beings scattered throughout the universe, many of the Infinity Stones in the MCU lie close to the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy and their allies.

Brolin also said that, in the film, Thanos will rely on psychological tactics just as much as he relies on brute force.

"It's a really smart movie," Brolin said. "He's a really smart character. I had no idea, in all truth, I had no idea when I did the teaser – we had, like, 36 cameras or something – I sat on a seat and I wasn't working with anybody. And now, being actually involved and interacting, I want to mention characters and I can't, but, of the characters that are in it, it's way more emotional and interactive than I thought."

Debuting in theaters on May 4, 2018, Avengers: Infinity War is a production of Marvel Studios directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Robert Downey Jr., Josh Brolin, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch and more.
