Following a taunting two-day countdown punctuated by a motion poster and a sneak peek, Paramount Pictures has released the teaser trailer for Terminator Genisys, the highly anticipated reboot of the sci-fi franchise.

Directed by Alan Taylor, the $170 million film is billed as a remix of the 1984 original, with resistance leader John Connor (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes‘ Jason Clarke) sending loyal soldier Kyle Reese (Divergent‘s Jai Courtney) from the post-apocalyptic future back to 1984 to save Connor’s mother Sarah (Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke) from a Terminator programmed to kill her. However, this isn't the Sarah Connor of the earlier films: Here she was orphaned by a Terminator at age 9 and raised by an older T-800 she calls “Pops” (original franchise star Arnold Schwarzenegger).

Also starring Matt Smith, Byung-Hun Lee and JK Simmons, Terminator Genisys opens July 1, 2015.

Paramount has also released a poster for the upcoming film, featuring Emilia Clarke holding a severed Terminator head in a wheat field.
