James Cameron's long-rumored 3D conversion of “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” finally has a firm release date: Aug. 25, just four days before the 20th anniversary of Skynet becoming self-aware on Aug. 29, 1997.

The 19th anniversary of that date was marked by the release of a fresh"T2: 3D" movie poster, featuring franchise superstar Arnold Schwarzenegger in all his beefy T-800 glory, strapped with his trademark shotgun and explosives used to dispatch the villainous T-1000.

Also starring Linda Hamilton, Robert Patrick and Edward Furlong, in 1991's “T2” a reprogrammed assassin robot, the T-800, sent back in time to stop its more advanced model from killing a teenage John Connor. That teen, played by Furlong, would go on to lead the resistance against Skynet, a lethal AI system bent on destroying humanity.

The film became a blockbuster, quickly raking in more than half a billion dollars worldwide. The sequel to Cameron’s 1984 classic “The Terminator” is still widely considered among the greatest action movies of all time, as well as the best in the franchise. Three sequels followed, to diminishing critical and financial success , but if the sci-fi franchise has taught us anything, it’s that it’s better to focus on the good parts of the past instead of trying to change it.

"T2: 3D" will hit cinemas on Aug. 25.
