The holidays: a time for family, togetherness and surviving the zombie apocalypse. The third season of Telltale Games' "The Walking Dead" is finally on the horizon, complete with a solid release date: expect the new season to debut Tuesday, December 20, following the first look at game footage live on stage at The Game Awards on December 1.

Telltale Games has been making adventure games since 2005, starting with an adaptation of Jeff Smith's comic "Bone" (soon to be a major motion picture). It was with 2012's "The Walking Dead" that the company really perfected its formula, creating its biggest critical and commercial hit to date.

Since then, Telltale has released tons of disparate adaptations, everything from "Game of Thrones" to "Minecraft," from Vertigo's "Fables" to most recently "Batman". The crown jewel in the franchise remains the ever-popular "Walking Dead" games.

As with other Telltale series, a season pass will be available for the new season "The Walking Dead", which will unlock each of the game's episodes as they are released. The season pass will be available on disc for Xbox One and Playstation 4 on February 7, which gives us a good idea of how quickly episodes will be released.

The second season of "The Walking Dead" ended on a heart-wrenching cliffhanger, and the new season seems to pick up some time later, as evidenced by the official description.

When family is all you have left… how far will you go to protect it? Four years after society was ripped apart by undead hands, pockets of civilization emerge from the chaos. But at what cost? Can the living be trusted on this new frontier? As Javier, a young man determined to find the family taken from him, you meet a young girl who has experienced her own unimaginable loss. Her name is Clementine, and your fates are bound together in a story where every choice you make could be your last.

Sounds like another great opportunity for impossible decision making and heartbreaking tragedy. In short, everything "Walking Dead" fans have come to expect and love!
