Telltale Games made its presence felt on the Electronic Entertainment Expo show floor last week thanks to its highly anticipated fifth chapter in the “Back To the Future” saga, as well as the Jurassic Park game, based on the hit Steven Spielberg franchise. But the company also had a lot to say about the upcoming “The Walking Dead” game based on the popular Image Comics series by creator Robert Kirkman, co-creator Tony Moore and long-running series artist Charlie Adlard.
Though gameplay elements were not demonstrated for E3 attendees, Telltale did talk about new features that would be included. As such, the game will stray a bit from the approach the AMC series took in its first season, though it will remain true to Kirkman’s vision. The game features a new lead character by the name of Lee Everett, a prisoner who manages to escape the zombie horde unscathed, though he’s visibly shaken by what’s occurred. Everett is joined on his journey through the game by a little girl named Clementine, though her involvement in the story hasn’t yet been revealed.
Rick Grimes, the leader of the band of survivors whose adventures and struggles are documented on television as well as in the comic, will also be involved with the story, though he’s still in his coma when the game’s story starts. How he got there, and how Lee and Clementine got stuck in this situation, should be explained in the multi-part game, which will involve quick-time event action sequences (basically, hitting the right buttons at the right time in order to survive) and occasional puzzles to solve. “The Walking Dead” also features an innovative interactive camera system, designed to further heighten the tension as you face the undead.
Telltale Games’ “The Walking Dead” is set to debut in early 2012
