While the fate of the next big-screen installment of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise hangs in the air, fans had a chance over the weekend to check out the new animated series on Nickelodeon.

Following the premiere's impressive ratings -- it attracted 3.9 million viewers and scored the network's highest ratings of the year in the boys 2-11 demographic -- Nickelodeon wasted no time renewing the fledgling show for a 26-episode second season.

Based on the 1980s comic book turned multimedia empire created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles features the voice talents of Jason Biggs (American Pie) as Leonardo, Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings) as Raphael, Greg Cipes (Ultimate Spider-Man, Teen Titans) as Michelangelo, Rob Paulsen (Animaniacs, Biker Mice from Mars) as Donatello, Mae Whitman (Arrested Development) as April O'Neil, Hoon Lee (Premium Rush) as Master Splinter and Kevin Michael Richardson (Young Justice, Thundercats) as Shredder.

New episodes of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles debut Saturdays at 11 a.m. ET/PT on Nickelodeon, with repeats airing throughout the week.
