Taylor Swift Cast in Vaughn’s “The Secret Service”

Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter Taylor Swift has been cast in Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming adaptation of Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons’ “The Secret Service” in an unknown role. The report comes courtesy The Daily Mirror, which implies Swift’s role is actually a cameo — athlete David Beckham and musicians Elton John and Adele have also reportedly been offered similar roles.

Although best known for her musical career and bestselling albums — notably, “Fearless” in 2008, “Speak Now” in 2010 and “Red” in 2012 — Swift has also appeared in movies and television in minor roles, such as in “Valentine’s Day” alongside ex-boyfriend and “Twilight” star Taylor Lautner and the recent season finale of “New Girl” in a role that poked fun at her well-known habit of writing songs about ex-boyfriends.

The original comic follows spy Jack London (Colin Firth), who trains his working-class nephew Gary (Taron Egerton) in the art of espionage as the duo becomes entrenched in a plot that involves the abduction of science fiction stars and the murder of an entire town.

Considering that Millar’s original story featured the kidnapping of celebrities, Swift’s role is likely minor. Much like Beckham, Elton John and Adele, she’s a popular and recognizable celebrity. However, the female lead of the film still hasn’t been cast — though, admittedly, Swift is a definite long-shot for a lead role.

Directed by Vaughn, “The Secret Service” stars Colin Firth, Taron Egerton and Samuel L. Jackson. The film is scheduled for a November 14, 2014 release.
