Sony Pictures has debuted a new international trailer for "T2: Trainspotting," director Danny Boyle's long-awaited sequel to the 1996 comedy drama.

It's been more than two decades since Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller and Ewen Bremner first appeared on screens as Renton, Sickboy and Spud in the adaptation of Irvine Welsh's acclaimed tale of love, life and heroin abuse in Scotland and London. Now Boyle has gotten the band back together for some unfinished business, which is pparently only loosely based on Welsh's novel "Porno."

The new trailer features a lot more footage and plot points than the previous teaser, and it seems that former heroin addict Mark Renton (McGregor) has been out of contact with many of his former pals for 20 years, but they've not forgotten him, or the money he stole.

The rest of the story looks set to revolve around much of the same mixture of drugs, music and limited life choices as the original. Will Mark be able to choose a better life for himself and his friends this time around?

“T2” opens Jan. 27, 2017, in the United Kingdom, and arrives the following month in North America.
