Syfy has tapped Another Earth filmmaker Mike Cahill to direct the pilot for its adaptation of The Magicians, The Live Feed reports.

Based on Lev Grossman's bestselling fantasy trilogy, The Magicians follows Quentin Coldwater and his classmates at Brakebills, an elite college of magic in upstate New York, who discover that a Narnia-like world from a series of children’s books is all too real. The first book was released in 2009, followed by the sequel The Magician King in 2011, and the final novel, The Magician’s Land, just last month.

The script was written by John McNamara (Prime Suspect) and Sera Gamble (Supernatural); Michael London (Milk) is producing with Janice Williams (All Good Girls).

“We were impressed with Mike’s feature work and his passion for this material," Bill McGoldrick, Syfy's executive vice president for original content, said in a statement. "We are very excited that he will be the one bringing The Magicians to life.”
