Given the clear-cut title of Syfy's initial shark + tornado outing Sharknado, it's not surprising that the sequel looks to be similarly straightforward. On Thursday, the network officially dubbed the next installment Sharknado 2: The Second One.

The crowdsourced title was chosen by Syfy from 5,000 Twitter submissions. "Since Twitter played such a huge role in the success of the original movie, we wanted to use that platform to ask our fans to name Sharknado 2," Thomas Vitale, executive VP of Syfy programming told Entertainment Weekly.

Sharknado, produced by low-budget specialists The Asylum and starring Tara Reid and Ian Ziering, debuted on Syfy on July 11, and quickly became a social media sensation -- despite attracting slightly lower ratings than average for the channel's original films in its initial airing. It's third time around scored 2.1 million viewers on a Saturday night, the biggest audience for an encore of a SyFy original.
