SyFy's "Happy!," an adaptation of Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson’s graphic novel, just found its star. According to Deadline, "Law & Order: SVU" alum Chris Meloni will play Nick Sax, a detective turned hired killer.

According to the character's official description, Sax was "once a rock star detective for a major metropolitan police force... Nick lost it all. Now he’s a broken, down-and-out hired killer that makes just enough money to support a steady diet of booze, drugs and sarcasm by carrying out hits for the mob."

In addition to his starring role, Meloni will executive produce the pilot. Morrison and Brian Taylor will write as well as executive produce alongside Meloni. Taylor is also on board to direct.

Besides "Law & Order: SVU," Meloni's credits include "Underground," "42" and "Bound." He is no stranger to comic book adaptations, having appeared in both "Man of Steel" and "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For."

The series follows “Nick Sax, a corrupt, intoxicated, ex-cop turned hit-man adrift in a twilight world of casual murder, soulless sex and betrayal. After a hit goes wrong, Nick finds a bullet in his side, the cops and the mob on his tail and a monstrous killer in a Santa suit on the loose. But his world is about to be changed forever by Happy, a tiny (imaginary) blue winged horse with a relentlessly positive attitude.”
