Lucasfilm brought its mysterious action-adventure video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order to Star Wars Celebration for a Saturday afternoon panel. Respawn Entertainment Head Vince Zampella and Game Director Stig  arrived in Chicago to unveil the first details about the game.

"This is a Jedi fantasy story game," Zampella explained. "This is a story game. No multiplayer. No microtransactions."

"So you play as a Jedi on the run in training with a lightsaber and Force powers," Asmussen said. "We made sure that the combat was something that was easy to pick up... Combat is key for us. We call it thoughtful combat," he explained. The game will follow a character named Cal.

The game takes place after Order 66, during which all the Jedi were slain. Now, Cal must avoid the Jedi-hunting Inquisitors, who are searching for Force-users who managed to escape. Cal is one of these Jedi and, in an effort to survive accepts a dangerous job to keep his head low. "He will have to face the trauma of his past" as he navigates this post-Jedi world.

Gotham star Cameron Monaghan will play Cal in the game. "We wanted someone with this young Clint Eastwood quality, and that's what Cam brings," Asmussen shared.

"He felt really distinct... but he has this sort of grit to him. He's street smart and weary... but at the same time, there's this sort of optimism to him," Monaghan explained. "He's ultimately a good person even though he's experienced all this tragedy."

Monaghan provided motion capture in addition to voice. "I just always wanted to know what it was like to swing a lightsaber... and it was really satisfying," he shared.

The game will include Second Sister, "a new Inquisitor that we have developed and introduced in the game." She already debuted in Charles Soule's Darth Vader #18.

Cal has a droid named BD-1. "They're equals, and they go on this journey together... You need someone to provide a little bit of light, and that's what BD does," Asmussen revealed.

"It's a little bit like a boy and his dog situation," Monaghan added. "Some of my favorite interactions are between BD and Cal."

Cal will come across other Force users, who form "a sort of family," according to Monaghan.

The Fallen Order story group worked with Soule and Marvel to develop Second Sister and her support Purgetroopers. They appeared in the background of a cover prior to their reveal at the panel.

"They're born out of the Stormtrooper, mechanically," Asmussen explained. Purgetroopers are airdropped in to fight the Jedi and soften them up before the Inquisitor arrives to finish the job.

The lightsaber is "intimately tied" to the story. "Over the course of the story, it will grow and evolve. In many respects, it's a reflection of Cal," Asmussen revealed.

The game will be released on November 15 for X-Box, PlayStation and PC.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a single-player, third-person game set between the events of the films Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. The story follows a yet-to-be-named Padawan who managed to survive Order 66 but must now face the wrath of a ruthless Empire. The game was first announced in June 2018.
