Speaking to a room full of journalists including CBR at New York Comic Con, the co-writer of the Batman vs. Two-Face animated movie said he had once pitched an animated take on the cancelled Tim Burton-directed/Kevin Smith-written Superman Lives film that was to star Nicolas Cage.

"I had a big pitch, and they took it seriously for a second," Jelenic revealed, "to do Tim Burton’s Superman...to do that animated."

"Nic Cage would do it," a reporter mused.

“He would absolutely do it!" added Jelenic.

Smith himself has expressed interest in an animated version of his scrapped film. “That would be really amazing," Smith said in 2016, "to kind of see, like they turn it into a cartoon and get the people to do the voices. Nic Cage is still around and stuff. And I wanted Michael Rooker for my Lex Luthor so that would be amazing. Um, but, you know, I’m game.”

Smith went on to say that an adaptation would ultimately be “up to the good folks at Warner Bros. and stuff, but if they were ever to call and say hey we want to do a cartoon version of that Superman script we wrote, believe me I’d be like, that’d be dope man.” Smith’s been quite active with comic book-based projects this past year, directing episodes of The Flash and Supergirl, so an animated film could be a natural next step.

Batman vs. Two-Face stars the voices of Adam West as Batman, Burt Ward as Robin, Julie Newmar as Catwoman, William Shatner as Two-Face, Steven Weber as Alfred, Jim Ward as Commissioner Gordon, Thomas Lennon as Chief O’Hara and Lynne Marie Stewart as Aunt Harriet. It is currently available to purchase on Digital HD, Blu-ray and DVD.
