Though the reinvented Man of Steel introduced in 2011's New 52 reboot looked like the character readers have enjoyed for over seven decades, that incarnation of Superman never quite clicked the way past iterations had, leaving even many of the most die-hard fans hoping for a return to the previous version.

And that's exactly what they got; just as the new Clark was sacrificing himself to save the world, the pre-Flashpoint version of the character arrived on the scene, with his wife, Lois Lane. Readers responded strongly and positively to this Superman's return, rewarding the "Superman" and "Action Comics" titles with the best sales they've seen since the early months of the New 52. Fans even embraced Jonathan, the new Superboy, who happens to be Lois and Clark's son, and will soon co-headline his own series with Damian Wayne, aka Robin, aka Batman's son.

Well, DC Comics is teasing a change to all of that in March 2017; "Superman Reborn" will see the origins of the current Superman family, as well as his predecessor, explored in a way that reveals neither is "what you believe you are." The long-gestating sub-plot featuring Mr. Oz, whom many believe to be the Watchmen's Ozymandias, will come to a full boil in Peter J. Tomasi and Patrick Gleason's "Superman" #18, when one of his prisoners (perhaps Tim Drake?) escapes, resulting in the revelation of a "shocking truth" that will rock Clark, Lois and Jon's world. The crossover then hits Dan Jurgens and Doug Mahnke's "Action Comics" #975 before boy king back to "Superman" #19 and then concluding in "Action" #976.

Now, while it's a bit unlikely fans really have to worry about Jonathan/Superboy's fate, since his and Robin's "Super Sons" series will have just launched three months earlier, the solicitation text does promise a "tragic moment" in the crossover's first chapter, while the final installment, in "Action Comics" #976, is described as leaving Superman's world "drastically changed."

Check out the covers for the crossover, as well as the full solicitation information for all four issues, below.
