Thousands of demonstrators descended today on Washington, D.C., for the Women's March on Washington, just one day after the inauguration of President Donald Trump. The event, which begins with a rally and culminates in a march from the Capitol to the Washington Monument, is just one of many being held across the country to protest Trump's agenda to demonstrate support for women's rights.

Among the crowd in the nation's capital, which organizers estimate could grow to as high as 500,000, is none other than "Supergirl" star Melissa Benoist, whose handmade sign sends a pointed message to the new president while giving a nod to her role as the Girl of Steel.

The message of course refers refers to the widely publicized and condemned audio recording from Trump's 2005 appearance on "Access Hollywood," in which the former reality-TV star boasted about kissing women and grabbing their genitals.

Benoist was thrust into the political spotlight in 2015, before "Supergirl" even premiered, when the one-time Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush was asked at a public forum to reveal who is favorite superhero is -- specifically, favorite Marvel superhero -- and why. The former Florida governor fumbled for an answer before settling on Benoist's Girl of Steel, whom he'd seen in ads for the show.

“She looked kinda — she looked pretty hot,” he said with a chuckle. “I don’t know what channel it’s on, but I’m looking forward to that.”

Bush's awkward comments were met with plenty of groans and grimaces. However, when asked for her reaction, Benoist was diplomatic. “I’m glad he’s excited to watch the show," she said, adding, "I think everyone would be able to take something from it, but I would really love to reach young girls, and to be a good role model for them."

Returning Monday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW with an episode directed by Kevin Smith, "Supergirl" also stars Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, Jeremy Jordan, David Harewood and Chris Wood.
