Reign is headed to Supergirl. The CW has announced that Cloverfield star Odette Annable will face off against the Girl of Steel as Season 3's primary antagonist. According to the character's description, Reign "will be the big bad of Season 3, as part of an exciting interpretation of the infamous World Killer storyline from the pages of the DC Comics."

The Season 2 finale of Supergirl flashed back 35 years to the death of Krypton. However, in addition to the familiar, episode-opening shots of young Kal and Kara, the flashback revealed a third Kryptonian pod. Its unseen but infant-sized passenger had a literal taste for blood and was cared for by a group of “Dark Kryptonians” -- or so they were called in the end credits. As the little ship streaked away, they predicted that “it” would “grow strong” and eventually “reign,” teasing this mysterious new villain for Season 3.

Debuting in DC Comics' Supergirl #5 in 2012, Reign is a biological weapon called a Worldkiller. Though designed on Krypton by Supergirl's father Zor-El, this biological weapons program was later shut down by the Kryptonian Science Council. Following the destruction of Krypton, Reign journeyed to Earth to find answers about her origin, which was mysterious to her. There, she encountered Kara, and the two came to blows. When Kara couldn't provide any answers for her, Reign shifted her focus to taking over Earth.

"Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Odette for years," executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said in a press release. "We are beyond excited to have her join our cast in the scary, powerful and heartbreaking role of Reign."
