CBS has officially ordered “Supergirl” to series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, CBS Entertainment chairman Nina Tassler saw the final cut of the pilot and loved it, clearing the way for the show to receive this series order.
The show centers on Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), a Kryptonian stranded on Earth following the destruction of her home planet Krypton. Assuming the name Kara Danvers, she decides to come out of hiding at the age of 24 and really use her super abilities for good.
“Supergirl” stars Benoist as Kara, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, Laura Benanti as Alura Zor-El, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Chlyer Leigh as Supergirl’s sister Alex, David Harewood as Hank Henshaw and Jeremy Jordan as Winslow Schott.
The pilot is directed by Glen Winter, whose past credits include “Smallville,” “Arrow” and “The Flash.” “Arrow” veterans Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg are both on board as executive producers. Berlanti and Ali Adler wrote the pilot.
“Supergirl” is currently in production at CBS.
