Although Cat Grant was a commanding presence in Supergirl's Season Two finale, contrary to early indications, Calista Flockhart's media mogul apparently won't play a larger role in the third season.

TVLine reports that while Flockhart was listed as a series regular by The CW in press release for Season Three, the actress won't be a full-time cast member. Instead, she's expected to appear as a guest star in a handful of episodes, "if the scheduling can be worked out."

Given the revelation that Cat has known Kara's biggest secret for some time, fans will undoubtedly hope schedules do work out, as Kara could surely use some sage advice from her mentor as she faces more challenges.

Best known for her starring role on Ally McBeal, Flockhart appeared on Supergirl a series regular during its first season, but reduced her role as the series moved from CBS to The CW and production shifted from Los Angeles to Vancouver.

Returning Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT this fall on The CW, Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist as the Girl of Steel, David Harewood as Martian Manhunter, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers and Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott, with appearances by Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant and Tyler Hoechlin as Superman.
