Summit Entertainment has acquired the film rights to Kenneth Oppel’s upcoming young-adult novel This Dark Endeavor: The Apprenticeship of Victor Frankenstein, Deadline reports.
Set to be published in August by Simon & Schuster, the action-adventure centers on young Victor Frankenstein’s efforts to save his twin brother Konrad after he falls gravely ill. Unsatisfied with the doctors his parents have called for help, Victor uncovers an ancient formula for the Elixir of Life and seeks the aid of a mysterious alchemist. He in turn sends the boy and his friends Elizabeth and Henry on a dangerous quest for the three ingredients that will save Konrad’s life.
Oppel is an award-winning author best known for his Silverwing Saga; the first novel was adapted in 2003 as an animated miniseries.
Erik Feig, Gillian Bohrer and Ashley Schlaifer will oversee The Dark Endeavor for Summit. Twilight‘s Karen Rosenfelt will produce.
