Following news of "Pacific Rim 2's" February 2018 release date comes word that the Legendary Pictures sequel is targeting another actor.

Deadline reports "Suicide Squad" actor Scott Eastwood is in talks to join John Boyega in the sci-fi action film. No details are known about his role.

Steven S. DeKnight ("Spartacus," "Daredevil") will make his directorial debut with the sequel, which is expected to be set years after the 2013 original, when the enormous monster-fighting robots called Jaegers are commonplace. Boyega reportedly will play the son of Idris Elba’s character Stacker Pentecost.

Although "Pacific Rim 2" was initially expected to begin production last fall, with Guillermo del Toro once more directing, the film was placed on hold before being removed from the Universal Pictures release calendar entirely. The project seemingly got back on track in February with the hiring of DeKnight to succeed del Toro; he was joined three months later by "Jurassic World" co-writer Derek Connolly.

Eastwood's credits also include "Gran Torino," "Fury" and the upcoming "Snowden" and "Fast 8."

"Pacific Rim 2" opens Feb. 23, 2018.
