UPDATE (6/24/16, 12:43 PM PT): Director David Ayer has responded to the news of "Suicide Squad's" runtime, stating that the report that it's 100 minutes long is "not true."

Original Article: It looks like "Suicide Squad" will go on a mission that's as lean and mean as the one its characters will embark on in the film. Flixster has revealed the David Ayer-directed film, which features a team-up between a number of DC Comics' most notorious super villains, will clock in at 100 minutes.

That run time makes it the shortest movie in DC's extended universe of films by far. "Suicide Squad" will be 43 minutes shorter than "Man of Steel" and 51 minutes shorter than "Batman v Superman." "Suicide Squad's" hour and forty minutes also makes it shorter than every Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, including "Incredible Hulk" and "Thor: The Dark World, which both clocked in at 112 minutes.

Perhaps appropriately, the film is closer in length to "Deadpool," with the Merc's movie lasting 108 minutes. Both of those films star violent antiheroes and it's assumed from the trailers that "Suicide Squad" will have an anarchic sense of humor similar to "Deadpool's."

Directed by David Ayer and starring Jared Leto, Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney and many, many more, "Suicide Squad" opens on August 5.
