Following weeks of teasing on social media, director David Ayer has announced the official start of filming on Warner Bros.' "Suicide Squad," with a photo posted on Twitter, of course.

The shot of the clapperboard arrives less than a week after the filmmaker revealed photos of most of the cast at a table read and a green-haired Jared Leto paying homage to the cover of "Batman: The Killing Joke."

Based on the DC Comics property, "Suicide Squad" stars Will Smith as Deadshot, Jared Leto as The Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, with Ike Barinholtz and Adam Beach in unconfirmed roles.

Production is under way in Toronto for a planned release of Aug. 5, 2016.
