Though production is currently underway for Warner Bros.' "Suicide Squad" film, there's still casting news to be had: The Hollywood Reporter has word that rapper/actor Common has joined the DC Comics-based film in an as-yet undisclosed role.

Common has experience in comic book-based fare, having appeared as The Gunsmith in 2008's "Wanted," based on the comic book series by Mark Millar and J.G. Jones. This year, he won both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for the song "Glory" from the film "Selma," which he performed and co-wrote with John Legend.

Written and directed by David Ayer, "Suicide Squad" -- about the DC Comics team of villains-turned-government mercenaries -- is expected for release on Aug. 5, 2016. Common joins a cast including Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Jared Leto as the Joker.
