WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Suicide Squad #5, by Robbie Thompson, Dexter Soy, Eduardo Pansica, Julio Ferreira, Joe Prado, Alex Sinclair and Wes Abbott, on sale now.

As the head of Task Force X, Amanda Waller has built up quite the reputation of being one of the most cunning and ruthlessly manipulative minds in the DC Universe. Able to pull off backroom deals in the political and corporate arena to get her way, Waller navigates the darker side of the DCU. And while she commands the most powerful incarnation of the Suicide Squad yet -- with a new mission directive that spans the entire DC Multiverse -- Waller and her notorious team have been outsmarted and outmaneuvered with lethal results every step of the way throughout the Infinite Frontier era. And as the scope of Waller's mission is revealed, her plans have just been dealt yet another serious setback.

As hinted at during Future State, Waller intends to position an iteration of the Suicide Squad on the morally inverted Earth-3 to supplant the Crime Syndicate of America and pose as that world's Justice League. Running reconnaissance on the alternate universe is Bloodsport, aka Robert DuBois, who provides Waller with reports on each member of the Crime Syndicate. Tasked with recovering Black Siren, the Syndicate's Black Canary analog, Bloodsport is interrupted by Earth-3's evil Superman Ultraman. Easily subduing Bloodsport, Ultraman is empowered by the antihero's Kryptonite weapon and is intent on going back to Bloodsport's world to obtain more.

This huge setback, with Ultraman and the Crime Syndicate now gunning for the Suicide Squad and their entire world because of Waller's intrusion, just stands to extend her losing streak during the Infinite Frontier era. With the complete rebirth of the multiverse, the Suicide Squad's initial recruitment mission in Arkham Asylum went disastrously. While the Squad was successful in extracting their intended recruit, the raid coincided with the asylum being flooded by Joker toxin, resulting in the deaths of half of the squad in the resulting bloodbath creating tension among the survivors and distrust in Waller's leadership.

These fissures were exacerbated by Waller's next attempt to bolster the Suicide Squad's ranks with a new recruit: The aspiring speedster superhero Bolt. Training at Teen Titans Academy, the Squad launched an infiltrate mission to recruit Bolt onto the team against her will. This extraction was foiled by the masked vigilante Red X, who saved Bolt but was captured after the skirmish. This all proved to be an elaborate ruse by Red X, who allowed himself to be captured by Waller to release the supervillains she had locked up in Belle Reve, including former Suicide Squad field commander Rick Flag who threatened to expose Waller's plans after learning what she had planned for Task Force X's new mission.

Waller's ambitions had grown more grandiose than ever No longer remaining to the shadows of the main DCU, she's instead plotting to reshape entire alternate universes to match her vision. Boasting heavy hitters like Peacemaker and Superboy on the team, Waller certainly has the muscle to help make this mission become a reality. Stung every step of the way to recruit the figures she needs to make this vision come to fruition, Waller's Suicide Squad may be set for a war they are not prepared to wage.
