Spider-Man is one of Marvel's most successful heroes. The Wall-Crawler has been battling evil since he was a teenager and has racked up some pretty impressive wins over the years. There's little in the Marvel Universe that Spider-Man hasn't done. He's been a part of every major team, worked with just about every hero, and helped save the world more times than he can count, which is saying something since he's a genius.

Over the years, Spider-Man has defeated some very strong foes. Some of the strongest villains in the Marvel Universe have fallen to Spider-Man. He may have been overpowered by them, but he he pulled out the win in the end.

10 Lizard Has Almost Spelled Doom For Spider-Man

The Lizard Curt Conners Spider-Man

Dr. Curt Connors is unlike a lot of Spider-Man's foes in that he never meant for his creation to give him powers. He just wanted to regrow his arm and help other people with missing limbs. Unfortunately, he transformed himself into the Lizard and became one of Spider-Man's fiercest foes. Bestial and strong, the Lizard is as deadly as they come.

The Lizard's strength is on par with Spider-Man's own and his scaly hide makes him very hard to hurt. Spider-Man has almost fallen to the Lizard several times, but has always been able to outlast his cold-blooded foe.

9 Sandman's Strength Is The Least Part Of What Makes Him So Dangerous

Flint Marko as the Sandman

The Sandman is one of Spider-Man's most challenging foes. While his super strength is definitely a factor in this, his sandy form is his greatest weapon against the Wall-Crawler. It's not just the offensive options it gives him that makes him so tough, but the defensive ones. Sandman can pull Spider-Man into himself by going soft like quicksand or transform his body as hard as tempered glass or brick.

Add his amazing strength and ability to grow in size and shape his limbs into all kinds of weapons and Sandman is the type of foe that Spider-Man has to out think to beat. Sandman has reformed several times, but Spidey is always ready for him to attack again.

8 Doctor Octopus's Arms Make Him A Match For Many Heroes

DOCTOR OCTOPUS - Master Planner

Doctor Octopus is one of Spider-Man's oldest foes. He's also one of his arch-enemies and owns one of the most decisive victories against Spider-Man that any villain can claim, taking over Peter Parker's body. While his intelligence has always been his most dangerous weapon, his robotic arms have made it all possible. Doc Ock's arms are very strong and he even has an adamantium set that has allowed to beat the Hulk by himself.

Ock's arms are an amazing weapon. They're very strong and give him a reach advantage against foe he fights. They are how a relatively weak man has been able to beat so many strong heroes. He can hold them at bay and pummel them with impunity.

7 Carnage Has Almost Killed Spider-Man Many Times

Maximum Carnage

Carnage is one of Spider-Man's most terrifying villains. Carnage's symbiote is different from its progenitor. It doesn't give Carnage the same physical strength of the Venom symbiote, but it isn't vulnerable to sonics, only fire. Carnage is strong, but he's not unbearably so for Spider-Man.

The lack of the weakness to sonics and Kletus Casady's own skill at crafting bladed weapons from the symbiote have helped him in his battles against Spider-Man. There have been plenty of times when Spider-Man was unable to beat Carnage on his own. While he's since been able to, Carnage is always a grave threat to the webslinger.

6 Green Goblin's Strength Is Greater Than Spider-Man's Own

Green Goblin burst through a window

Spider-Man and Green Goblin have been battling it out for years. Norman Osborn hates Peter Parker with a passion and his Goblin formula enhanced physique has served him well over the years. Green Goblin is Spider-Man's superior when it comes to strength. Osborn wouldn't have it any other way and on top of that, he has a powerful healing factor.

Green Goblin's strength is made all the more perilous by his insanity. He's strong, crazy, intelligent, and he'll go to any extent to destroy Spider-Man and those around him. With strength like his, the Green Goblin's come close to killing Spider-Man more than once even if he hasn't finished the job.

5 Venom Has Always Been One Of Spider-Man's Most Formidable Foes

Venom Swinging feature

Symbiotes are powerful creatures and the Venom symbiote has long been one of the most dangerous ones on Earth. While Venom hasn't been in a villain in a long time, he's still one of the strongest foes that Spider-Man ever fought. Spider-Man's battled Venom when both Eddie Brock and the Scorpion Mac Gargan has the symbiote and he had to be careful against both.

Usually when Spider-Man fights foes who are stronger than him, his spider-sense is his greatest weapon, but that power does not work against Venom. Spider-Man has had to think outside the box against Venom and has won only by the skin of his teeth.

4 Morlun Beat Spider-Man To Death

Morlun and Spider-Man

Morlun quickly made a name for himself fighting Spider-Man. An energy vampire, Morlun lives to drain beings with spider powers and has traveled the multiverse with his family exterminating the various Spider-Men and Women he's come across. Morlun is superlatively strong and always a tough foe for Spider-Man when he shows up.

Morlun is a lot stronger than Spider-Man and was able to beat him to death. Spider-Man's powers saved him, but he was clinically dead. Few foes have overwhelmed Spider-Man the way Morlun has.

3 Spider-Man Beat Loki In An Unconventional Way

Spider-Man Loki 2

Loki is one of Marvel's greatest villains. For all intents and purposes, he should be way out of Spider-Man's league. However, Spider-Man took a different approach to fighting him. Instead of trying to match Loki in a fight, he befriended him. Spider-Man showed Loki the sights and sounds of New York City, got him a hot dog, and basically made friends with the God of Mischief.

So, while it wasn't a fight in the traditional sense, Spider-Man was able to stop Loki's scheme by doing something few had figured out up until that point. He treated Loki like a regular guy and now Spider-Man is Loki's favorite superhero.

2 Rhino Isn't Strong Enough To Get Around Spidey's Spider-Sense

Marvel Rhino Extreme Transformed Rampage

Rhino is not the smartest villain in the world, but that's okay. He's strong enough to present a challenge to the Hulk and is one of the strongest henchmen on Earth. From the beginning, Rhino has been much stronger than Spider-Man. The only reason Spider-Man has survived their battles is because of his spider-sense.

While Spider-Man's been able to trick Rhino many times, it's his ability to stay out of the way of Rhino's attacks that have allowed him to take the villain down. Rhino could easily overwhelm Spider-Man, so he uses whatever he can to even things up.

1 Spider-Man Took Down Juggernaut, But It Wasn't Easy

Spider-Man Traps Juggernaut In Cement

Juggernaut is no longer a villain, but when he was, he was one of the strongest around. He's taken out a who's who of Marvel's heroes. Juggernaut's battle with Spider-Man was extremely one sided. Spider-Man could stay out of Juggernaut's way, but he couldn't hurt him. Eventually, he lured him into a construction site and entombed him in concrete. Spider-Man outsmarted Juggernaut, which was the only way the Wall-Crawler was able to win. Juggernaut has knocked out the Hulk, so Spider-Man beating him by any means is pretty impressive for the webslinger.
