Netflix's immensely popular sci-fi horror series Stranger Things has never shied away from its pop-culture influences. The show incorporates Dungeons & Dragons and The Lord of the Rings into its story, but with this new poster it embraces Ridley Scott's genre-blending 1979 classic Alien.RELATED: Stranger Things Creators Confirm Season 3The Stranger Things Twitter account debuted the homage, accompanied by the text, "This is Will Byers. Only survivor of The Upside Down. Signing on. #StrangerThursdays begins now." That echoes Ellen Ripley's final lines in Alien: "This is Ripley, last survivor of the Nostromo, signing off." The image itself mimics much of the design for Alien's poster, and plays on the film's tagline, "In space no one can hear you scream."

The poster kicked off this week's #StrangerThursday. Last week, the account tweeted out a homage to 1987's The Running Man with a Hopper-themed poster.

Like Alien, Stranger Things is a mixture of horror and science fiction. The second season will pick up in 1984, with the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana still reeling from the events of the first season. Producer Shawn Levy teased that the new evil that they'll face will make the "Demogorgon look quaint in retrospect."
