The following article contains spoilers for Stranger Things Season 4, Volume 2, streaming now on Netflix.

Fans created an online petition asking Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer to resurrect Eddie Munson, played by Joseph Quinn, after the character's tragic death in the Season 4 finale.

The Change.org petition was created shortly following the release of the second volume of Stranger Things 4 on Netflix and is addressed to both the Duffer brothers and series director and producer Shawn Levy. With a goal of 50,000 signatures, the petition is intended to "bring back fan favourite Eddie Munson," according to the description. It continued, "The Duffer Brothers have unfairly killed him off and many other fans and I think he deserves to be brought back and not just as a flashback, please sign this petition to spread awareness."

Introduced in the Season 4 premiere, Quinn's eccentric metalhead became a fan favorite among the show's ensemble cast. However, in the season finale, Eddie was killed in the Upside Down by a swarm of demobats, leaving some fans devastated at the character's untimely death. The Duffer brothers confirmed in a recent interview that Eddie's death was, in fact, real despite hopes from fans that the character might have survived.

Will Hawkins Learn the Truth?

However, Quinn has stated that while Eddie's demise is official, he hopes the town of Hawkins will one day recognize the character for the hero that he is. "That's kind of the kick, isn't it?" Quinn said. "It was just rough that he dies, and people don't realize what a hero he is. But hopefully, he'll have his name cleared in Season 5. Maybe, we'll see."

Throughout the season, Eddie had been hiding from the law after being framed for the murder of Chrissy, the first victim of the villainous Vecna. In a previous interview, Quinn shared some insight into his character's demise. "I think [Eddie]'s completely haunted by his inability to do anything to save Chrissy and how powerless he was at that moment," he said. "And obviously being blamed for that murder is devastating and then having to go into hiding...then at some point in Episode 8, a switch flips, and he decides that he's going to prove himself."

While some main cast members, like Eleven actor Millie Bobby Brown, have chided the Duffer brothers for not killing off more main characters, the creators have defended their decision to keep Stranger Things' body count relatively low. "Believe us, we’ve explored all options in the writing room," Matt Duffer said. "Just as a complete hypothetical, if you kill Mike, that's depressing. We aren’t Game of Thrones. This is Hawkins, it’s not Westeros. The show becomes not Stranger Things anymore because you do have to treat it realistically, right?"

Stranger Things 4 is available to stream now on Netflix.
