That fabled "Halo" live-action television series -- you know, the one produced by Steven Spielberg -- is still happening, Showtime insists, but fans shouldn't plan any premiere parties just yet.

Announced in 2013 by Microsoft, the adaptation of the hit video-game franchise initially was targeted for release on Xbox Live, with the cable channel negotiating a deal with the company a year later. Since then, however, there's been no visible signs of movement on the series (it should be confused with Xbox's five-episode "Halo: Nightfall").

But during the same Television Critics Association session that brought us an update on "Twin Peaks," Showtime President David Nevins told IGN that "Halo" is still "in very active development."

Asked whether we should expect more details soon, Nevins reportedly replied with a laugh, "No time soon."

"Halo 5: Guardians" drops Oct. 27, so maybe there will be news about the TV series by the time "Halo 6" rolls around.
