With the sixth-season premiere of Doctor Who just a week and half away, the BBC has released two clips from the first episode, “The Impossible Astronaut,” featuring the Doctor, backpacking newlyweds Amy and Rory, and the enigmatic River Song.
Separately, we’re also given stills from the premiere and one or two other episodes, including “The Doctor’s Wife” (written by Neil Gaiman), more behind-the-scenes shots and two characters banners, one spotlighting The Silence, the malevolent beings who caused the TARDIS to explode in Season 5, creating cracks in time, and the other showcasing what’s presumably the titular Impossible Astronaut.
Smaller versions of those posters actually debuted Monday in the Daily Mail, where showrunner Steven Moffat said he wanted The Silence — they can wipe the memories of humans, so that anyone who looks at them and then turns away forgets ever having seen them — to be the scariest Doctor Who villains to date.
“I think the idea is very cool,” he said. “Imagine going downstairs and you can’t remember if there was something upstairs.”
The high-resolution stills come courtesy of Life, Doctor Who & Combom, where you can find the behind-the-scenes shots and plenty of other great Who material.
Doctor Who kicks off its sixth season at 9 p.m. ET/PT April 23 on BBC America.
