With five months to go before its series premiere, Black Sails is already commissioned for another voyage.

Variety reports Starz has renewed a second season of Michael Bay's pirate drama ahead of the show's 2014 debut. That's the second time the network has renewed an original series before its premiere, following its handling of Kelsey Grammer's Boss in 2011. Starz has ordered 10 more episodes of Black Sails, with production set to begin in South Africa in November.

The network's CEO Chris Albrecht credited the renewal with the successful Comic-Con International screening of Black Sails last week, adding, "We felt an early order for a second season would allow the writers, cast and crew enough time and space to continue crafting such unique and epic storytelling."

Black Sails, considered a Treasure Island prequel by its creators, debuts its eight-episode first season in January.
