The closeup, used for the magazine's subscriber edition, is a callback to the final moments of 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens, when Mark Hamill appears on screen for the first time.

While subscribers will receive their copies in the next few days, Empire points out that the regular newsstand edition will go on sale Sept. 7.

Hamill appears more fully as his beloved character on the cover of a Hungarian film magazine, which depicts the Jedi Knight draped entirely in black. Whether that's a hint to Luke's arc in The Last Jedi or simply a nod to his costume in Return of the Jedi remains to be seen.

Arriving Dec. 15, director Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi stars Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Kanata, Domhnall Gleeson as General Armitage Hux, Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma and Andy Serkis as Supreme Leader Snoke.
