In the pantheon of Star Wars' Jedi Knights, Yoda is one of the most formidable, but the upcoming Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures comic will feature a younger version of Yoda and not one Star Wars fans are used to.

"This is Yoda out in the world, a journeyman who isn't tethered to one place," Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures writer Daniel José Older told CBR in an interview. "He's always been passionate about raising up the next generation of Jedi, and here we get to see him doing just that in real-world scenarios, not a stuffy classroom. It's basically like having Yoda chaperoning you on the coolest galactic field trip ever."

This “field-trip chaperone” version of Yoda is much different than the powerful Jedi Master fans have become familiar with. Older will write this upcoming Star Wars series with artist Harvey Tolibao.

Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures, like other entries in The High Republic initiative, takes place 200 years before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace which followed the adventures of Luke, Han and Leia. The comic features Master Yoda traveling with a group of Padawans to investigate the construction of the Starlight Beacon space station, and in the process encounter the galactic raiders known as the Nihil. Older previously said that Yoda would be taking a "hands-on approach" to teaching Padawans in the way of the Jedi.

Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures #1, by Older and Tolibao, goes on sale in February 2021 from IDW Publishing.
