"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is destroying the international box office like it was Alderaan, earning $72.7 million in its first two days of release.

With receipts from its Thursday previews in the United States now up to $57 million, the Disney/Lucasfilm sequel has hauled in $129.7 million worldwide since its bowed in a handful of markets on Wednesday.

Variety reports the film is adding even more records to its mantle, with its $14.4 million Thursday debut scoring the biggest single-day opening of all time in the United Kingdom and Ireland. It also broke opening-day records in Germany, Sweden and Norway.

"The Force Awakens" opens wide today in North America, Japan, Spain and most other markets, except for Greece and India (Dec. 24) and China (Jan. 9).
