"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will receive is world premiere Dec. 14 in Los Angeles, just days before its wide release.

The Hollywood Reporter adds that Disney and Lucasfilm will offer "minimal screenings" for press, cast and crew as part of an effort to keep a lid on any leaks. Following the L.A. premiere, the festivities will move to London and then to other locations around the globe.

"The Force Awakens" will be released wide Dec. 16 in France, Dec. 17 in the United Kingdom and Dec. 18 in North America.

Directed by J.J. Abrams, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" stars franchise veterans Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker, joined by newcomers John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Lupita Nyong'o, Gwendoline Christie and Max von Sydow.
