Expected to blast through records all weekend, the Friday numbers are in for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." According to Variety, J.J. Abrams' "Episode VII" has already smashed a pair of opening box office records, and is well on its way to more.

"The Force Awakens" brought in a stunning $120.5 million on Friday, eclipsing the previous record held by "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" by almost $30 million. ("Potter" opened with $91 million in 2011.) That film also previously held the Thursday night record with $43.5 million, which is now also owned by "The Force Awakens" with its $57 million preview earnings.

The projections have the latest "Star Wars" entry well on its way to blowing up "Jurassic World's" $208.4 million opening weekend record with an estimated $250 million tally of its own. And that's only considering the 4,134 screens it premiered on in North America. It's highly probable that "The Force Awakens" will hyperspeed past "Jurassic World's" $316.1 million international and $524.9 global opening records as well.

Two of the other "major" films bowing this weekend -- Universal's "Sisters" with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler (opening in 2,962 locations) and Fox's "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip" (opening in 3,653 locations) -- netted $5 million and $4 million respectively on Friday. Both should round out their opening weekends with about $14 million each.

Directed by J.J. Abrams, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” stars franchise veterans Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker, joined by newcomers John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie and Max von Sydow. The film is now playing in theaters.
