We were promised the remaining episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars would be released sometime this year, and now we know exactly when and where: The sixth and final season of the beloved animated series will arrive March 7 on Netflix.
Dubbed “The Lost Missions,” the final 13 episodes will be accompanied on the video-streaming service by the entire Clone Wars saga, including several director’s cut episodes that never aired on Cartoon Network. The agreement, which marks the first time Star Wars content has been available on Netflix, is part of a new multi-year agreement.
Lucasfilm announced in March that “the time has come to wind down” The Clone Wars, clearing the way for a new animated series, Star Wars Rebels, to launch on Disney XD in the fall. The studio said at the time that no more episodes were being produced for Cartoon Network, but promised that new story arcs were being developed.
“Stars Wars is one of the most iconic franchises of all time and this series joins a long line of Disney content that Netflix members are and will continue to enjoy for years to come,” Ted Sarandos, Netflix chief content officer, said in a statement. “The Clone Wars marks an important moment as Netflix welcomes more and more first-run content from The Walt Disney Company and its subsidiaries.”
The deal follows the announcement made in November that Marvel Television and ABC Television Studios will produce multiple live-action series for Netflix featuring Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and the Defenders.
