If you notice something different about director Rian Johnson's hotly anticipated Star Wars: The Last Jedi, it might just be that the film utilizes the fewest wipe transitions of any main film in the franchise.

After polling Twitter about which Star Wars film they thought had the most wipe transitions, Johnson revealed the rankings: The Phantom Menace had 55 wipes, Empire Strikes Back had 42, A New Hope had 31, The Force Awakens had 14 and The Last Jedi came in last with a mere 12 wipe transitions.

Johnson did not provide the numbers for Attack of the ClonesRevenge of the Sith or Return of the Jedi, the other installments in the main series. When making Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Gareth Edwards did not utilize any of the franchise's iconic wipes so as to differentiate it from other films in the franchise.
