Before it resurfaced in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," Darth Vader's helmet was last seen on the Sith lord's funeral pyre in "Return of the Jedi." While "The Force Awakens" would lead you to believe the above image was the result, actor David Prowse -- who donned the helmet in the original "Star Wars" trilogy -- proved otherwise by posting an image of the original prop.

With the caption "The actual Vader helmet and mask after Return of the Jedi," Prowse's image shows the original mask in two pieces -- the face covering and the helmet -- unlike the single piece in Kylo Ren's possession. However, between the fraying fiberglass and charred coloring on the original prop, "The Force Awakens'" Darth Vader helmet certainly looks more intimidating.

Directed by J.J. Abrams, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” stars franchise veterans Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker, joined by newcomers John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie and Max von Sydow. The film is now playing in theaters.
