“Star Wars” Comic Expands Universe with Major Surprise

For those of you that have not been keeping up with Marvel Comics’ new “Star Wars” ongoing, today might be the time to jump on board. Both Marvel and Lucasfilm have been very clear that these new comics take place in the franchise’s all-new canon, and today’s “Star Wars” #6 contains a status quo shake-up that is as big as a Death Star. Spoilers lie ahead for those of you that aren’t caught up with the series, so look away now.

Back in “Star Wars” #4, writer Jason Aaron introduced a figure wearing a cloak and mask who was had arrived at Mos Eisley in search of Han Solo. The mystery person took out the knees of a group of Rodian ruffians using a voice-activated blaster mounted under a table, evoking a certain scene from 1977’s “Star Wars.” In today’s “Star Wars” #6, artist John Cassaday finally got the opportunity to take off that character’s disguise and reveal their identity.

That’s right — she’s Sana Solo, Han Solo’s wife, and she’s tracked Han and Leia to an isolated planet. This reveal comes at the end of the issue, so there’s still plenty of information left to be discovered, like the nature of their marriage or the current status of their relationship. Depending on how Aaron handles the rest of this reveal, this development could have ramifications on how Han and Leia’s interactions in Episodes IV and “The Empire Strikes Back” are perceived.

“Star Wars” #6 is in stores now.
