"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" grossed $14.1 million in its opening day in 12 overseas territories, setting industry records in six countries.

According to Deadline, the film debuted Wednesday at No. 1 in all 12 markets -- no surprise there! -- and scored the biggest opening day for any "Star Wars" film. It also had the biggest opening of any Disney release in France, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, South Africa and French-speaking Switzerland.

France led the pack with a $5.2 million box office, more than double the amount earned by "The Avengers" in its first day, and nearly double that of "Jurassic World."

"The Force Awakens" opens today in another 32 international markets, including the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, South Korea and Brazil, and starts previews tonight in the United States ahead of wide release on Friday.
