CBS continued to roll out new information and teases about its upcoming Star Trek TV series, Star Trek: Discovery. The new series, which will premiere on its exclusive CBS All Access service, will be a prequel set 10 years before Captain Kirk's five-year mission in the Classic Series.RELATED: Why Star Trek: Discovery’s Klingons Look So DifferentThe series will bring back the Star Trek franchise to TV in time for its 50-year anniversary, and the official Twitter feed provided a closer look at the new phaser, based on the phaser from the 1960s series with a more modern feel.

The Twitter account also provided a sneak peek at the retro-styled communicator for the series.

Star Trek, one of the most iconic and influential global television franchises, returns 50 years after it first premiered, with Star Trek: Discovery, which will feature a new ship and original characters, all while "embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers."

Star Trek: Discovery will star Sonequa Martin, Michelle Yeoh, Doug Jones and Anthony Rapp with Alex Kurtzman, Bryan Fuller, Heather Kadin, Gretchen J. Berg and Aaron Harberts, Akiva Goldsman, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth serve as Executive Producers.
