Following a leak this morning, Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for "Star Trek Beyond" four days early. It was originally scheduled to premiere with "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

Sprinkling in humor amid plenty of action, the trailer harks back to J.J. Abrams' 2009 film through of its use of the Beastie Boys' "Sabotage,' perhaps signaling an intention to moving away from the more divisive territory of "Star Trek Into Darkness." The teaser also features plenty of footage of Sofia Boutella while delivering the first look at -- and dialogue from -- Idris Elba's mysterious villain.

Directed by Justin Lin from a script by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung, the sequel stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, Sofia Boutella and Idris Elba. The film opens July 22.
