Less than 24 hours after the well-received debut of the first "Spider-Man: Homecoming" trailer, Sony Pictures has already officially scheduled the sequel's release date, as reported by sources including Deadline: Friday, July 5, 2019.

The first "Spider-Man: Homecoming" is slated for release nearly exactly two years prior, on July 7, 2017; making the Friday after Independence Day marked Spidey territory for two of the next three years. A Spider-Man sequel two years after the original is a definite pattern for the franchise; "Spider-Man 2" followed two years after 2002's original "Spider-Man," and "Amazing Spider-Man 2" hit in 2014, two years after "Amazing Spider-Man."

The "Spider-Man: Homecoming" sequel is now the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe film on the schedule, falling two months after the untitled fourth "Avengers" film, on the schedule for May 3, 2019.

This move prompts a release date change for another sequel to a Sony movie that isn't out yet: "Bad Boys 4," which has shifted from July 3, 2019 to the earlier date of May 24, 2019. The third "Bad Boys" movie, "Bad Boys for Life," is scheduled for release on Jan. 12, 2018.

Directed by Jon Watts and starring Tom Holland in the title role, and with a highly touted supporting appearance from Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man/Tony Stark, "Spider-Man: Homecoming" is scheduled for release on July 7.
